The architecture of Ming Wah is imbued with the empathy of the designer, who aimed to create the best living space where residents could prosper using limited resources.
[Corridor and impluvium] Each floor of the building features a skywalk-time corridor, on both ends are impluviums that penetrate the roof, allowing for natural lighting and ventilation.
[Balcony] To make rent affordable to more tenants, about 40% of flats in Ming Wah do not have balconies. These flats all face the North (picture’s right), while flats that face the South have balconies.
[Carved bricks] Ming Wah’s design features a lot of carved hollow bricks. They are good for ventilation, aesthetically pleasing and economical.
[Public space] Each building features a roofed public space on the ground floor.
[Built along a hill] Ming Wah Dai Ha was built along a hill. Its buildings scatter across a slope and are connected by stairs and slanted pathways.
