Traces of Time
The first three buildings of Yue Kwong Chuen—Shun Fung Lau, Pak Sha Lau, and Hoy Kong Lau—were completed in 1963, when dense wooden squatter huts were visible on the adjacent hillside.
When the estate was newly built, residents could be seen traversing the streets with their belongings.
Early tenants moved their household items into Hoy Kong Lau, marking the beginning of the Yue Kwong Chuen community.
Hoy Kong Lau initially featured communal kitchens; this was redeveloped in 1982 to provide a private kitchen and bathroom for each household to improve living standards.
The open space between Shun Fung Lau, Pak Sha Lau, and Hoy Kong Lau serves as both a recreational area and a playground for children.
Yue Kwong Kindergarten, located in Hoy Kong Lau, provided early education to the children of fishermen and surrounding communities.
The area along Yue Kwong Road, outside Shun Fung Lau, was once a busy spot teeming with hawkers and market stalls.
